physiology dissected for the digital age.
biostructor is a biomedical edutainment project for people who want to understand how living systems hold themselves together—from ion channels to health policy.
We borrow the architecture of early anatomy theatres: one space to cut, one to show, one to interpret. Together, they form a loop between mechanism, visualization, and meaning.
The three pillars of the biostructor
Sector
We treat membranes, junctions, and tissue planes as a network of constraints and pathways. This is where structural models live: the quiet architecture that makes function possible.
Ostensor
The visual engine of the project: animations of flow and function, interactive models, and process demos that turn abstract squiggles into intuitive motion.
Lector
Featurettes that follow everyday questions back to mechanisms: why fevers feel dramatic, why athletes hit the wall, why some drugs sedate and others merely irritate.

About the biostructor team
A small, international collective of volunteer scientists making physiology clearer, kinder, and more accessible than it was when we first learned it.
We come from medicine, mathematics, bioengineering, and computer science but meet at the same table, united by a fascination with how living systems hold themselves together and how people learn to understand them.
Our work is shaped by collaborations with the Universities of Amsterdam, Indiana, Padova, and Auckland—scientific cultures that keep us rigorous, creative, and honest about what we know and what we don’t.
Sector, Ostensor, and Lector are built as open, evolving resources for the next generation of physicians, scientists, and curious learners.
Lowering barriers
Making medical training and physiology literacy less opaque and more humane.
Honouring stories
Treating science as a human endeavour with histories, struggles, and shared futures.
Inviting collaborators
Clinicians, researchers, educators, and artists who recognise themselves in this mission are welcome in our digital theatre.
